Swimming, Biking,Running: Aerobics Trainer Seema does it all


When Reebok Certified Aerobics Trainer Seema Subodh is free from her fitness classes, she can be seen biking or running a half marathon if any major event is seen nearby. This year she took part in Brivet – a 200 km biking event from The Bikestore, Kaloor stadium to Thodupuzha and back. She clocked 11 hours 17 minutes. She also took part in a major Triathlon event in Goa.

“Doing regular exercise and aerobics helps me in doing an endurance test in half-marathon and biking,” says Seema.

She would say that there is nothing to beat aerobics when it comes to attaining overall fitness as it draws in more oxygen into your lungs and never makes your body oxygen deficit. This ensures that vital nutrients reach each cell in your body at the required time. Aerobics enables toning of body, weight management and strengthening of muscles apart from attaining overall fitness.

From Medical Transcription to Fitness

Seema took to fitness as a career after spending a decade in medical transcription work. “The job was sedentary and I was glued to the computers for 7 hours at a stretch. It took a toll on my health and started going to gym.”

“There were already several physical fitness trainers for workouts in Kochi with many of them being experienced and therefore I took up Aerobics as a profession getting certified from Reebok in Chennai,” Seema said. Reebok certification is an intensive training programme with equal importance to theory and practicals. The theory covers human anatomy, skeletal and muscular systems, nutrition among others while practical training is focussed on dance, choreography, music. She is also trained in step aerobics and fitness.

Presently, a trainer at Beats’n’Steps, a dance-fitness center in South Kalamassery, Seema says her one-hour session consists of 45 minutes of aerobics set to music followed by strengthening and stretching excercises. “ I also do freelance work providing 2-hour aerobics sessions for groups who are already initiated into physical training,” Seema said.

Her Dream
My dream is run a full marathon which is the ultimate test of my strength and endurance, says Seema whose small family consists of husband Subodh and daughter Devika.
